Motorcycle Backpacks

Motorcycles do not offer ample storage space. There may be a small compartment under the seat, but this is usually only large enough for a cell phone and possibly a wallet. To be able to transport things when riding a motorcycle, there are a few different options. The type of driving that is done as well as the personal preferences of the biker will help to determine what works best. For some saddle bags are preferred but for a large number of people, motorcycle backpacks are more convenient and the preferred method for storing things while on the bike.

Motorcycle backpacks should not be confused with normal pack or school backpacks. These are specialized bag that have a number of features that make them ideal for the biker. The most noticeable difference would be the style, size and overall design of the bag. Since it is going to be worn while riding at high speeds, the bag needs to be streamlined so it does not create any drag on the bike. It also should be form fitting and hug the back of the wearer. Many times, the fabric on the back of the bag will be textured so it clings to the jacket of the rider. It should not be able to move from side to side at all. The straps should all be short and there should be nothing that hangs below the bag. This could be a potential safety hazard. Finally, the zipper pulls will be larger than those on a standard bag. This makes it easier for the rider to get into the bag if wearing gloves.

Before purchasing a backpack, it should be determined what the bag will be used for and how much needs to be stored. For daily commuting or short trips, a backpack is ideal. If a longer trip is going to be taken, saddle bags will be able to hold more items and may be the best bet. Since the backpack is going to be worn on the rider, the items carried are of importance. Balance is importance on a motorcycle, so nothing should be carried in the backpack that will weigh them down or throw off their center of balance.

When actually purchasing the backpack, trying it on in a store is ideal. If it is a motorcycle specialty store, one should be able to try on the bag and also get on a motorcycle to see how it fits and feels while actually on the bike itself. The right one will become a handy tool.
